Paint & Body Questions and Answers:

Q: WILL REPAINTING MY VEHICLE BE WORTH THE INVESTMENT?

A: That is up to the owner.  Painting a vehicle increases the value, the look, and in some cases, the fuel mileage (smooth and aerodynamic vs. rough & rusty!). At FlexBilt Customs, we offer four levels of paint jobs - from simple single-stage paint jobs to complex, high-end three-stage paint jobs.  iSeeCars recently reported the most popular vehicle paint colors, such as white, black, and silver, make little difference in the value of your vehicle, “meaning they won’t hurt resale value but they also won’t help a vehicle maintain its value,” the report says.  With only a 4.5% drop in value over three years, yellow cars depreciate the least while Brown vehicles (17.8%)  lose their value the most.  The bottom line is what you are trying to get our of a new paint job.  "Looks" always wins out as being the number one reason to paint a car - you just need to put a value on the look you are looking for!

Q: HOW MUCH WOULD IT BE TO GET MY CAR REPAINTED AT FLEXBILT CUSTOMS?
A: There really is not a short answer since there are a lot of "depends" to the answer.  Multiple factors are in play and every customer must take into consideration what they would be satisfied with.  Pricing, including but not limited to, condition of the vehicle, size, original paint type, new paint type selected, how much of the car is being painted, what other services/repairs are selected (interior door jams for example), all play a significant role in how much a paint job will be.  The bottom line, is we want you to drive away happy.  We will gladly walk you through the options and how we can stay within your budget.

Q: HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PAINT MY TRUCK OR JEEP?
A: On average, a paint job will take two to four weeks to complete.  There are a lot of variables involved including, but not limited to, prep time due to rust, dings, & dents, weather (we do not paint on rainy or high-humidity days), whether or not you are wanting a color change or keeping it the same color, and, of course, overall condition of the surfaces throughout your vehicle.  At FlexBilt, we will not just throw on a coat of paint and send it out the door.  We protect our name and reputation and have a very hard time in doing a paint job half-way.  We've had many customers come in asking for a simple $300-$400 "Maaco level" paint job.  We suggest you go to Maaco if that is what you want!  We will take the time to get your surfaces right.  A good paint job is as only as good as the prep time that goes into the vehicle. Also, color changes take more time in both prep, primering, and painting.  Whether you are going from a lighter color to dark or vise-versa, color changes can cost up to $1,000 more on average and another three or four days in the paint booth.

Q: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHOOSING A SINGLE-STAGE PAINT JOB VS. A BASE COAT - CLEAR COAT THREE-STAGE PAINT JOB?

A: A single stage paint job uses a technology that allows the color and protective resin to be applied in one single step.  Because primer and clear coat(s) are not involved, it is faster and easier to execute.  Single stage paint jobs are the best when using the most simple colors, like black or white.  Note that single stage is much more harder to color match vs. using a three-stage paint process.  A three-stage or Tri-Stage base coat - clear coat paint job is what all of your auto manufacturers' use with their new vehicles off the assembly line since the mid-1980's.  Some paint & body shops call it "two-stage finish" but we call it a three-stage since that is what we do!  We thoroughly prep all surfaces, lay a coat or two of primer, apply the base coat (actual color), and then one to three coats of clear coat (the clear shine you see and also serves as a protectant of the base coat. Our three-stage process paint jobs are, by far, the most durable and provide a maintenance free finish that will last for years to come.  Due to the multiple steps involved in a three-stage paint job, it is the most expensive option but is also the most popular with the nicer trucks, Jeeps, classics, frame-off restorations, and other vehicles we do.

Q: HOW MANY COLOR OPTIONS CAN I CHOOSE FROM?

A: Within our paint & body division at FlexBilt Customs, you can literally choose from over ONE MILLION color options.  Why?  We stock, mix, and make our own paint in-house!  You can come in a go through our four cabinets of color swatches.  Once you choose and BEFORE we paint your vehicle, we will do a complimentary spray out of the color you chose so you can double-check your choice next to your vehicle, wheels, or interior!

Q: WHO IS YOUR PAINTER AND WHAT IS HIS BACKGROUND?

A: In our strong opinion, we have one of the best painters in the southeast.  Jeff has been painting for over 20 years, has attended and trained eight times with PPG and is certified.  Better yet, come by and see some of his work.  We usually have two or three vehicles on our property for you to review.
